Diet melomakarona

INGREDIENTS

250 ml natural orange juice

500 ml olive oil

1 kilo of all-purpose flour

1.5 kg baking soda

Zest from 1 orange

1 tbsp cinnamon powder

1 tbsp clove powder

 

For the syrup:

2 fl. honey

2 fl. water

1 cinnamon stick

3 whole cloves

1 whole orange cut in half

For decoration, grated walnuts

INSTRUCTIONS

Syrup

We prepare the syrup a few hours before the dough, so that it cools down completely.

Put all the syrup ingredients in a saucepan. As soon as they boil, remove from the heat and let the syrup cool for at least 3 hours, after removing the solids. If foam has formed from the honey, skim with a slotted spoon.

MELOMACARONA

In a deep bowl, mix the orange juice and soda. Let them react and add the olive oil. Spices are in order.

Add the flour and mix the ingredients. We should not stir the mixture too much. Form the melomakaroni into small round balls and press them down with the palm of your hand. We pass the melomakaroni on the grater to get the characteristic pattern.

Place the honey macaroons on a baking sheet.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 30 minutes, until they take on a dark golden color.

As they are hot, put them little by little in the cold syrup. Leave them for 10-15 seconds, turn them on the other side and in 5 seconds remove them.

Place the honey macaroons in layers on a plate and sprinkle each layer with the grated walnut.
